Managing Mental Health during Chrismas

Christmas and the holiday season can be stressful times of the year for many people. The pressure to be happy and festive can be overwhelming for those who struggle with mental health issues. The season of joy can be a difficult time for those who are dealing with depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.

It’s important to remember that everyone experiences the holidays differently. Some people may feel overwhelmed and exhausted, while others may feel excited and energised. It’s normal to feel a range of emotions, and it’s essential to recognise and accept them.

Understandably, people may feel the pressure to be festive and social, while at the same time, they may be struggling with their mental health. It is essential to take the time to care for yourself and remember that it is okay to say no. It is okay to set boundaries and prioritise caring for your mental health.

There are a few things that you can do to help manage your mental health during the holiday season. First, it is important to acknowledge your feelings and to talk to someone if you are struggling. It can also help to set realistic expectations and to take some time for self-care. This could mean taking a break and doing something that you enjoy, such as taking a walk or engaging in a creative activity. Finally, it is important to reach out to friends and family for support.

The holiday season is a time to reflect and celebrate, and for many, it can be a difficult time. Remember that it is okay to take a break and prioritise your mental health.

If holiday season stress is getting too much for you and you need support, call Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636, or Lifeline on 13 11 14, to talk things through. If you or someone you know is at risk of hurting themselves or someone else, call triple zero (000).
